Google has bought a 15 month-old startup deal service called Dealmap. Terms of the acquisition weren’t revealed, however, this is just the latest in a string of purchases by Google that total over US$2.7 billion and 70 different businesses. They plan to add Dealmap to their existing deals service called Offers.
Apple and Samsung Overtake Nokia in Smartphone Sales
Apple overtook Nokia in Smartphone sales in Q2 with 20.3 million units shipped and over 19% share of the market. Apple was closely followed by Samsung who also took advantage of struggling Nokia. With the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy S 11 Samsung has seen growth of over 380% year on year. At this rate they are expected to overtake Apple in smartphone sales very soon.
Linkedin Now Adding 2 New Members Per Second
LinkedIn’s CEO Jeff Weiner has revealed that LinkedIn is adding two new members every second, which is up from one member per second in November 2010. The second largest social network in the US recently over-took MySpace in terms of traffic and now has over 120 million members, 40% of which visit the site once per month.
Last week the Internet became 20 years old. It was two decades ago that Tim Berners-Lee launched the first website, a placeholder page written in HTML, on the 6th of August 1991.
