UK regulator Ofcom has given the go-ahead for mobile operators to use their 2G network for 3G mobile broadband

It says this will help mobile operators increase the speed of their mobile broadband whilst also easing the pressure on current 3G services. The recent uplift in demand for Internet enabled smart phones has caused a strain on the service and this move will make mobile Internet more accessible to greater parts of the country with higher speeds. 

Facebook has revealed to potential investors that it generated revenue of $1.2bn in the first nine months of 2010

This means it was on track for 2010 revenue of more than a billion pounds and is pulling in a quarter of Yahoo!’s revenue. Yahoo reported revenue for the first nine months of 2010 of $4.8bn whilst Google reported revenue of $20.9bn for the same period.  This highlights the strong growth of Facebook throughout 2010 as 2011 revenue targets are expected to increase further still.

Facebook now drives more online traffic to video than search engine Yahoo!, according to new research

The quarterly research shows that for the first time, social media has driven more traffic than search engine Yahoo!. This caps a remarkable year for Facebook and means the social network is now second only to Google for referring traffic at 9.6% vs Google at 55% of referrals.
