Google Rolls Out Privacy Reset For Buzz Social Network
Google’s social networking tool ‘Buzz’ launched in February. The site is integrated with the email product G-mail and has been said to be the only rival for Facebook. Not sure about that one but time will tell!
Since being ‘live’ there has been much backlash from users after fear of privacy intrusions. The search giant will now ask all its users to confirm or change their privacy settings, starting on April 5th.
The Electronic Privacy Information Centre has alleged that Buzz is “deceptive” and breaks consumer protection law.
Yahoo Invests In Original News Content
Yahoo have began their quest to be a leader in original content. They have hired journalists from New York Observer and Washingtonpost.com and plan to invest much more to achieve their goal.
Yahoo news is currently the 2nd most popular news site in the US, It trails CNN and is ahead of Digg, the New York Times website and USA Today. The aim now is to move away from drawing content from others and producing original content.
James Pitaro, head of media at Yahoo, told The New York Times, “My hopes are to continue to build a voice for our media properties and to replicate the success we have had in Yahoo Sports.”
China Partially Blocks Google Mobile Services
It looks like the Chinese authorities are wasting no time in getting Google away. Following the announcement last week that it would withdraw all its services from China, Google said its mobile services have been partly blocked in China.
The partial blocking has hit all of the services that Google delivers to mobile phones, including search. This is quite a blow as China has such a great long-term potential with its ever booming Internet population.
