Grant Muckle
I Spy Labs' Managing Director Grant Muckle believes that search is the perfect marketing medium for people who don’t like marketing.
“What I like about search is that it’s the opposite of marketing. When consumers have a need and they want to buy something, it offers them what they want,” is how he explains the extraordinary success of the medium.
Muckle has spent 10 years working in search and his experience includes work for brands such as British Gas, Pirelli, National Express and Aer Lingus.
In 1997 when he first arrived in Europe from New Zealand he got a job in the food business. His career took a digital turn after a chance meeting with someone starting a new search marketing business.
It was 2000 and he decided to take a gamble, joining what became Top-Pile. The appeal was the chance to be a pioneer. “The internet changed all the time and you had the freedom to define your own destiny,” he says.
After Top-Pile closed in 2005, Muckle worked for Touch Local a business directory service, developing a search-marketing product for sale to larger clients. He joined I Spy in 2008 as head of natural search.
