Squared 2012
We’re back! Lisa and I are back in the I Spy office after a couple of months at Google for the Squared course in conjunction with Hyper Island.
It has been an incredible seven weeks of meeting great people, changing the way we think and work and being inspired by one another. The course was created to ‘Empower the next generation of leaders to drive the industry [r]evolution’.
Initially we didn’t know what we were in for; believing that we would be trained in using specific Google products during the time we spent there. However, it was more to do with changing and adapting the way we work within teams in order to produce the best results.
We were joined by another 83 people in the industry from different agencies to take part in this opportunity and were split into four separate groups, being given mentors that would help run the program with us for the duration. Once in these groups we were handed three objectives:
- Create an online business
- Taking an offline business online and
- Increasing value for a client
These were all completed within small teams and then presented back to industry leaders, including Jim Brigden (who I presented task 3 to!).
Within the seven weeks we were also required to complete different toolbox sets , such as completing an adwords account, coding, and measuring data, along with receiving lectures from unbelievably inspiring people in the industry such as Nikesh Arora (Google), Jeremy Bullmore (WPP Advisory Board & The Guardian Columnist), Rory Sutherland (Vice Chairman Of The Ogilvy Group), and my personal favourite, Sir John Hegarty (BBH).
We are now back at I Spy for a few weeks before heading over to Google once more for a final wrap up week and graduation.
