How to Enhance Your Website Natural Search Using LinkedIn: Optimise Your Profile
LinkedIn is a fast growing company which has as of today, 120m+ professionals signed up around the world, 26m+ members in Europe and more specifically, 6m+ members in the UK.
Considering these figures we can only imagine the local monthly search LinkedIn receives, which explains why more than 2 million companies now have LinkedIn Company Pages.
As the chart shows, the visits to businesses referred by LinkedIn have had a huge growth in 2011, passing from less than 20,000 to roughly 90,000.
So, how can you get a piece of this ever expanding growth?
Create an optimised company LinkedIn profile:
- By fully completing your profile (career history and interests) and editing it in order to claim the URL (eg. http://www.linkedin.com/company/facebook), you optimise your own name in the search engines and make your URL easier to remember.
- Your company should connect with as many relevant people as you can either for recruitment purposes or for information about your field of interest. In addition, demanding recommendations is a good way to stand out and will help to build trust in your company’s reputation to visiting users.
- LinkedIn gives you the opportunity to add three useful links: “My Website”, “My Portfolio” and “My Blog”. If none of those keywords are to be optimised in your natural search strategy you might want to choose instead the “other” category and choose your own anchor text.
- Join and create groups related to your company’s field. Have a look at your competitors, your contacts and you employees and see which groups they joined. Compare and evaluate the reach and relevancy of those groups and finally add and participate to internal conversations.
- By participating in group conversations and using LinkedIn Answers, you can build up your reputation in the industry. From a natural search perspective, your answers will create links to your LinkedIn company profile, therefore strengthening your profile and search engine response.
