Facebook Ramps Up Mobile Offer

Facebook Ramps Up Mobile Offer

Facebook is thought to be readying the release of an official iPad app and is finalising a series of HTML5-based web apps to bolster its mobile strategy. According to The New York Times, the social networking giant is understood to be weeks away from launching the free app specifically designed for the iPad.

The app has been in production for a year and will let users shoot and upload videos directly from the device.

Google Voice Search & Search By Image Comes To Desktops

Mobile innovation is fuelling Google’s search offerings for the desktop, as the company last week announced two new search interfaces, Image and Voice.

Google Search by Image for the desktop, builds upon the image-recognition technology the company previously rolled out for mobile in Google Goggles. Users input an image, and, as in Goggles, Google returns results it believes are related to that image, along with similar images.

With Voice Search for the desktop, inspired by Mobile Voice Search, users click a microphone icon in the search box, and then speak into their computer’s microphone.

Pizza Express Lets Customers Pay Bills via iPhones

The launch of the free app is supported by Pizza Express’ rollout of free WiFi in its 370 restaurants and the company says the app marks the first time PayPal online payments have been brought to the UK high street.

The app links up with customers’ PayPal accounts, allowing them to pay their bill in “less than a minute” at any stage of their meals. It also features menus and allows customers to find and book tables and store receipts and vouchers.
